Holland: Kihm's September Update

BUKO, Inburgering, & Birthdays

Every year the German Church of God gathers for its annual Bundeskonfernz (BUKO). The CHOG in Germany is the largest in any country in Europe, both in number of CHOG churches in the country and in combined attendance. The Dutch CHOG has a great relationship with the German CHOG and has enjoyed attending this conference in the past. This year, for the first time, the annual conference was held in Holland! We were grateful to host our German sisters and brothers on Dutch soil in a combined Dutch and German conference. It’s always a highlight of our year to reconnect with many who have become good friends to us during our time here. This year, Dan and two other Dutch leaders led breakout Bible study sessions. It’s so encouraging to see the unity of the churches in both countries and also so many young families enjoying fellowship together at this conference. Hats off to Roelof Braad and Rudy Puchta for all of the very hard work they put into making the conference a success.

Love Language
For our work permit, we both need to pass a government language and culture test called the Inburgering Exam.  Dan has been taking formal Dutch classes and successfully passed the level needed to take this exam! He plans to attempt it this Fall.  Christy has been informally studying Dutch and will start formal classes in January. Dan really enjoyed his classes and the diverse students from Syria, Korea, Eritrea, and Iran.

Sofie is embracing the culture and language as she just turned 3 in July. This week she randomly started singing (in Dutch) the Happy Birthday song. She’ll surpass us all!
