CCCOG to Mexico - 2017

Today was a successful first day! After resting up from our long day of travel yesterday we were able to start out our week here in Vicente Guerrero ready for anything! After breakfast we headed to Colenet for a church service at the Church of God or Iglesia de Dios. Pastor Tony shared a message with us on complaining. I don't know what he would think we might complain outside the comfort of America....no flushing toilet paper, not understanding what anyone is saying, or sharing a room with five or ten other people. Absolutely nothing we might complain about.... Pastor Tony did a great job of sharing his message in both English and Spanish! It was really amazing to see how interactive the people were with Pastor Tony and how welcoming they were to all of us. We got to stay for lunch and eat fish tacos which are a huge crowd pleaser with us! We spent most of the afternoon spending time with each other and the pastors of the church.

Later into the afternoon we started our preparation for the week! Puppeteers practiced, bracelets were made to give away, snacks for VBS were prepared, and the medical team started their planning as well. We have lots of teams going out tomorrow and lots of opportunities to see God working!

One of these opportunities occurred for us already. We walked to a taco place for dinner and as we were sitting and eating there was three little girls and a little boy selling bracelets. They melted our hearts and it was so fun to see them smiling for our cameras, holding up the dollar bills we handed them with a laugh of delight, and the genuine happiness they showed. As many of us were finishing up our meals Pastor Tony said he could not eat his tacos. He felt eyes on him and those eyes belonged to the little boy. Pastor Tony asked if he was hungry and he said yes. He asked if the boy wanted his taco and he also replied yes. So he sat down with us and ate the taco and one of the little girls walked up and handed a bracelet to Pastor Tony and said "This is for you. Thank you very much." This is such a small example of a big God.

It is such a blessing to be in this community and we are so excited for where God is going to work in and through us this week! - Megan H.
